Symbols have always held a great importance in social movements and causes- I think that is a wonderful idea! This would help the cause gain momentum, and possibly further research from scientists and paranormal experts alike, so we can get to the bottom of the matter.

As for what could represent the phenomena- maybe a simple zigzag, to symbolize the mouth of the treacherous openings on Buttermilk? Just a thought.

How is everything else going?

I agree that anomalies can create legends. These accounts may seem incredulous. However, after all scientific reasoning is explored and exhausted, certain cases can only be explained through the paranormal- just like these footprints, just like Buttermilk.

Remember Jim, every situation is not always as it seems! :)

about the "devil's footprints" - based on the description (repeating pattern of tracks in a straight line) it sounds like a tire tread or other wheel to me. thoughts?

Real Mccoy to your concerns, yes, these phenomena happen throughout the year at the mountain, but more activity is always reported during the ski season because there are more people around to witness it. Areas like the bob marhsall wilderness do not share the same geological aberrations as Buttermilk does, although there have been some scattered reports throughout the region. That these phenomena occur in such high concentration and close proximity to one another is part of the my fascination with the mountain!
